No playing favorites when it comes to Bay Area football. I presented you with the 49ers’ top preseason rushers since the start of the 2006 preseason. Below are the top 20 Raiders.

Yes, preseason stats are meaningless. But the fact that they are immediately relegated to obscurity makes for great trivia questions. I mean, the full Raiders list includes the likes of Deonte Williams (19 yards) and Rashawn Jackson (8 yards). Now that’s trivia!

Preseason running backs are, to a large extent, sacrificial lambs, lugging the football so the $5 million backs don’t have to. Hence the presence of, say, Gary Russell, whom I had almost entirely forgotten about – in the top 10, no less.

Celebrate these preseason stats with me so we can forget all about them again tomorrow.
